6 Ways Drinking More Water Changes Your Life

You’ve probably heard it a million times before: drink more water! But with our busy lives, running around like a medicated machine on auto pilot, we turn to more aggressive liquids for fuel: caffeine and by 5 pm, maybe a cocktail (not me, ha). The next day, the cycle continues. You might be thinking, " I totally drink enough water...like after my espresso!” Ya, that’s not enough! The daily requirement is eight large glasses.

Are you drinking this much? Most don’t. Based on a study from medicaldaily.com, 75% of Americans suffer from chronic dehydration. So it’s likely you’re among them! It may be the reason you suffer from low energy, moodiness and other health issues. If you’ve got these problems, it’s an easy fix. Drink more water. Here’s 6 reasons it’ll change your life!

More energy!

Feel sluggish? It's probably because you're dehydrated. Plus, if you're a big caffeine drinker, it makes your energy levels crash. Water, on the other hand, keeps your energy levels even. WebMD confirms that not getting enough water can leave you feeling drained and fatigued.

You’ll be able to tell when you’re dehydrated because when you “have to go”, your fluids will look, well…neon. Then you know it's time to fill up the tank.

Brain power

Whether you’ve got ADD, an addiction to texting, or a tendency to space out and stare at walls or even, I don't know, unidentified flying objects, you've got trouble fousing. Water can fix it. It helps you concentrate!

As Dr.Joshua Gowin explains in Psychology Today, “Our brains depend on proper hydration to function optimally...when you lose too much water, that balance is disrupted. Your brain cells lose efficiency.” Basically, when we're not hydrated enough, our cells work poorly, causing brain fog. So if you want to feed your brain, it’s not only about nutrition— drink water!

Anti aging powers

Like watering a plant, your skin needs also needs to be hydrated. All living things need water to look healthy, bright and moist.

Organicauthorty.com, wrote about an experiment of women who increased their daily water intake and then posted their before and after selfies. The results are unbelievable! You can truly see a radical improvement in their skin health. That’s why I stopped splurging on fancy designer creams; the secret is getting tons of water, vitamins and sleep.

Fights sickness

Would you believe me if I told you that drinking more water can fight sickness?

In a medical study reported by Daily Mail, “research found that those who drank just three glasses of water a day were five times more likely to get a blocked nose or sore throat than those who drank eight.” It's amazing, but also quite simple: the water acts as a natural detox.

Basically, drinking water improves your ability to flush out toxins from your body. Your immune system will grow stronger.

Lessens stress

Life is stressful— that’s a reality we can't escape. But we can’t battle it...with water!

Studies have shown that not drinking enough water can increase your cortisol levels,” says Amanda Carlson, RD, director of performance nutrition at Athletes’ Performance, a trainer of world-class athletes.

What’s cortisol? The stress hormone! That’s why water helps manage your stress levels by keeping cortisol low. And obviously, some deep breathing exercise and yoga doesn’t hurt either!

Prevents bloating

Bloating is the worst! When I have a full belly, I get sluggish and can’t perform at my best, whether it’s at work or even at home as a wife.

Drinking plenty of water will help keep your digestive system moving along better to prevent constipation. It also makes your exit moments more comfortable. So make sure to sip on water throughout your day, helping to reduce gas (and avoid those embarrassing “it-wasn’t-me” moments).
