6 Reasons Your Confidence Feels Low

Nobody has invincible levels of confidence. Speaking as someone who spent her teen years battling body image in the media spotlight, I can assure you that everyone in Hollywood gets insecure. Nevertheless, for anyone, feeling low on yourself is the worst! It's the energy-draining leech that demotivates you from doing all things you love : working out, socializing, making goals. So how can you get your groove back? From my experience, the best way is to identify why your confidence feels low and then work on solutions.

1. Your diet is poor

You feel how you eat. When you're constantly binging on starchy foods and sugars, your gut can become inflamed, forcing your body to overwork and feel exhausted (Dr.Axe). Being too tired is a common reason your confidence might feel low. You need that energy from food to feel positive-- enough to feel enthusiastic about smiling, laughing and socializing.

2. You're being anti-social

You don't need to be a social butterfly, but connecting with others is important for mental health. According to Life Coach & Author, Michaela Chung , "Decide that becoming confident is a priority for you and realize that building confidence will require you to step outside of your comfort zone." If you suffer from social anxiety, speak to your therapist about ways to engage with people in smaller, safer settings.

Or if you've been moody due to personal reasons like a breakup, try fixing your funk by seeing at least one friend or family member. Even though you might not feel like going out, the smallest effort to leave your house helps you feel lighter because you're investing in a positive activity with a person who cares about you.

3. Hormonal imbalance

Our hormonal balance is like a game of Twister. It’s a crazy balancing act of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone--plus others-- which keep your mood and health in proper function. As Dr.Axe explains, a few chemical disturbances won't leave your hormones tumbling into chaos, but many disturbances will! It can cause those unexplained weeks of low confidence-- and not just during PMS.Try these lifestyle changes to keep your hormones as balanced as possible (health.com).

4. You're stuck on jealousy

Jealousy is a normal human emotion-- only a problem when you can't deal with it in a healthy way. When you allow jealousy to feed your fear of not being good enough, your confidence will hit a low. Instead, focus on nurturing your talents and hobbies or try setting new goals to empower your self-esteem. Ultimately, you don’t need to be the best at everything; you only need to be the best version of yourself.

5. You need new goals

Goals get your pumped! By chasing your deepest desires, you'll be much more likely to jump higher and feel more excited about being successful. Whether it’s about showing better leadership at work or exercising more often, think about those ideal traits you want to improve most. You’ll see that when you make a goal, you'll try harder and feel more confident.

6. Treat yourself better

Treat yourself to random acts of kindness. There’s nothing like a regular dose of self-love when your confidence feels low. As doctor and herbalist, Aviva Romm recommends, take yourself to the spa, or at least a long luxurious bath. Or make time for recharging and rejuvenating by working out, getting a massage or joining a yoga class. Bottom line, be your own best friend.

As you see, the best remedies to heal your confidence comes from within. It's not a matter of a material or money; while a new handbag might be pleasant, it won't fulfill your need for self-love. So identify the reasons why your confidence feels low and focus on the solutions to be the best and brightest version of yourself.
